9:30am, March 30th, 2024 - Spring Butterfly Walk
Butterfly expert Linda Cooper will be leading Spring Butterfly Walks at Kissimmee Prairie Preserve, March 30, 2024. You can expect to see and learn about Kissimmee Prairie butterflies, as well as their host plants, eggs, caterpillars and chrysalids. Linda and her late husband, Buck, began surveying butterflies at Kissimmee Prairie even before its purchase by the state. Their efforts produced the Preserve's incredible checklist, and put KPPSP on the map for its butterflies. Linda continues to survey, compile official counts for the North American Butterfly Association (NABA), and monitor butterfly populations on large public lands in Florida. She is also an effective advocate for their protection. The walk is limited to 14 participants. Participants may drive their own vehicles (or carpool at your discretion) and park along the road to the various walk sites. Please bring your own lunch, water, a hat, sun screen and bug repellant.
